Behind Kelly Barnes Photos is Kelly Barnes, a skilled photographer with over 25 years of experience in the media industry. Kelly’s expertise, creativity, and personalised approach to every project ensures that each client receives the highest level of service and the best possible outcome.
About Kelly
Kelly’s passion for photography began at 15 when his teacher loaned him a book about Magnum photographers, sparking his journey to become a photographer.
In the early years of Kelly’s career, he secured a cadetship with Messenger Newspapers in Adelaide, before moving to Brisbane to work for Quest Newspapers and the Brisbane Sunday Mail. Kelly worked to establish himself in the industry freelancing for News Ltd publications, including Herald Sun, Sunday Herald Sun, MX, and The Australian.
In 2002, Kelly was appointed Deputy Chief Photographer at The Australian’s Melbourne bureau, covering major world events such as the 2004 Asian Tsunami, the Commonwealth Games and Ashes series. In 2006, he transferred to Adelaide, where he covered significant stories, most notably the 2011 Japan Tsunami.
In 2018, Kelly launched his own business, Kelly Barnes Photos, specialising in editorial and portrait work for clients like Getty Images, The Washington Post, and The Age. He also expanded into sports photography with AllStar Photos, providing team and action photography.
With a career spanning over two decades and diverse experience, Kelly continues to drive his passion for photography, building a successful client list of beautifully photographed individuals.
